Health Care

The White Mountain Regional Medical Center (WMRMC) in Springerville and the St. Johns Family Health Center play an important part of the health care for the Southern Apache County communities.

Originally built in the 1930’s as a one-story rock building, the hospital has expanded to meet the growing needs of the communities. Viewed as an asset of the region, the residents take great pride in assuring the continued growth and expansion of services.

In 1995, the citizens of the region overwhelmingly voted to create the White Mountain Communities Special Health Care District, thus continuing the future of quality health care in the region.

Today, the hospital is a full service facility with state of the art services that include surgery services, emergency services, radiology, including telemedicine technology, laboratory, rehabilitation services, and a recently expanded critical care unit. WMRMC provides 20 beds, including 4 Intensive Care beds for the residents of the region. There are 29 members of the WMRMC's Medical Staff; 14 of which are local physicians/providers; 6 are visiting specialty physicians, and 9 are off-site physicians/providers who provide long distance support medical services to the residents of Southern Apache County and the neighboring communities in New Mexico. For more information on WMRMC, visit their website at www.wmrmc.com.

The new St. Johns Family Health Center opened in 2000 us a Federal Rural Health Clinic that provide high quality primary health care to the residents of St. Johns and the surrounding area. Using the latest technologies, the health care providers unite to form a family of professionals committed to creating an environment that promotes health and well-being.
